2022 Tom Eckl Memorial Award Recipient Thomas Barragan
PHS will be celebrating the annual Senior Awards Night in-person again! That means we are all looking forward to presenting another great PHS graduating varsity basketball player (Thomas Barragan) a $400 scholarship from our class in Tom Eckl’s memory along with a $600 gift from Tom's brothers and sister.
Coach Eric Anderson has stated that Thomas is a unique and deserving recipient who meets the high standards of the Tom Eckl Award. This season Thomas led the the varsity to the league championship and on to State.
2021 Tom Eckl Memorial Award Recipient Armando Aka Nwagbo
In spite of the needed adaptations for Covid at this year’s Senior Awards Presentation it is obvious by the smile on Armando’s face that he is very happy as the 2021 Tom Eckl Award and Scholarship recipient. Please communicate to him that, not only Coach Anderson and the entire PHS faculty and staff, but also Tom’s family and all of our PHS class of 1965 are also very happy and inspired that he is the recipient this year! (Feel free to forward this email to him:)
Armando’s life journey has touched us all as an example of how dedication and hard work can overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. Everyone who has heard his story anticipates that he will continue to work hard in college, and beyond, to prepare himself for a lifetime of accomplishment and service. He seems totally appreciative of all the loving support he has received along the way and we foresee this young man prioritizing ‘paying it forward’ to others in need as he continues to make a difference in the lives he touches throughout his life.
Our hope is that the Tom Eckl Award and Scholarship, and well deserved recognition as a leader on and off the court, will help to launch him on his way to that distinguished future!
Warm Regards to Armando and his family, to you and Coach Anderson, and to other PHS staff who help with the presentation of the Tom Eckl Award for an outstanding senior basketball player each year, regardless of the obstacles!
